Frequently Asked Questions

How can I make an appointment?

Tattoos are by appointment only and we do not take walk-ins. The only way to make an appointment with one of our artists is directly through them. You cannot schedule an appointment through MADÉ, as all of our artists do their own booking.

The best way to stay up to date with our artists’ books, events, and any other exciting news is either by following our artists’ Instagram accounts or joining the newsletter our owner, Chloé Jane, created to keep you all in the loop. A newsletter will go out on a monthly basis with all of the fun things you’ll want to get updated on! You can sign up here.

Why can it take so long to get on an artist’s books?

As a tattooer, and unlike many other businesses, when your business grows, outsourcing your tattooing to meet the demand is not an option. This means that as the clientele grows, the production of tattoos stays the same, as there is only one human/artist giving the tattoos. This applies to all tattooers. We are all so grateful for your patience and can’t wait for our paths to cross.

what are your hours?

Tattoos are by appointment only and we do not take walk-ins.

Our mercantile shop is open:
Thursday 12—4pm
Friday 11—4pm
Saturday 11—4pm

You are welcome to drop by if you are in the neighborhood outside of those hours as our door is always open is any of our artists are in tattooing!

How much does a tattoo cost?

That depends on the design size, intricacy, and placement of the tattoo. Tattoos from our artists typically range from $200-600 for small to medium sized tattoos, or $150-250 an hour depending on the design, size, placement, and artist. All of our artists are more than happy to provide you a budget before your appointment!

When getting a tattoo, you are paying for a custom made, hand inserted, and permanent work of art that you are going to wear under your skin for the rest of your life. You are also paying for the procedure itself and for many hours of work put in outside of your appointment.
The cost of your tattoo includes and is not limited to: design time, booking time, materials, insurance, booth fee, your in-person session, and your tattooer’s direct attention and expertise.

TATTOO AFTER CARE

  • First of all, listen to your body and what it needs.
  • Take DermaShield / bandage off after 3-4 days + peel bandage from top to bottom in the direction of the growth of your hair.
  • Once bandage is removed, wash gently with unscented antibacterial soap. We recommend unscented Dr. Bronners or unscented Dial soap. A little does the trick. No need to scrub, just gently wash. Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let air dry.
  • Put on a thin layer of unscented lotion. We recommend Lubriderm or Dr. Bronners unscented salve. You can also use tattoo salves, coconut oil, jojoba oil or cocoa butter for moisturizing in the long term. + Moisturize 2-3x a day until healed, about 2-3 weeks from getting your tattoo.
  • Continue to moisturize for 6 months-1 year for optimum healing.
  • No soaking for minimum two weeks, 3 to be safe.
  • No sun for 2 weeks, sunscreen can be applied after two weeks
  • No working out/sweating when DermaShield / bandange is on.
  • The DermaShield / bandange is water resistant, but we recommend quick showers for the days that you have the bandage on. Healing process may take 2-6 weeks. Scabbing or pealing may occur — do not pick at scabs or pealing skin.
  • Consult a physician at the first sign of an adverse reaction (i.e., swelling, infection, illness, allergic reaction or disease); tattoos should be considered permanent, and can only be removed with a surgical or laser procedure and that any effective removal may leave scarring. *Outside of the normal limits of healing, any concerns that your body art has resulted in complications, infection or disease should be reported to: Denver Department of Environmental Health, Public Health Inspection – Body Art, 200 W 14th Ave.

It’s my first time getting a tattoo and I’m nervous.

We so see, hear, and feel you! Getting a tattoo can be nerve-racking and we do everything in our power to make the experience as easeful and pleasurable as possible through communication and intentional, grounded space holding. All of our artists are more than happy to answer your questions and concerns during the booking process, and will always be ready to guide you through the step-by-step process of getting your tattoo. Your wellness and comfort are very important to us and we welcome your vulnerability and questions as things come up.

It also feels important to mention that intimidation is something we actively stay away from in our shop and practice. There is no silly question and we do not expect our clients to know how this all works. This connection and vulnerable space is what makes tattooing so special and intimate and we are highly aware of that dynamic.

Cancellations & No-Shows

Please be considerate of our tattooers. The MADÉ tattooers put an immeasurable amount of love and attention into their work and holding space for their clients. This includes the booking process, design process, your tattoo session, and any interaction you share with them.
We appreciate our clients taking it upon themselves to make sure they are emotionally, mentally, and financially ready for their tattoo appointment in order to mitigate any last-minute cancellations or no-shows. These types of schedule changes greatly affect our team and we appreciate you being considerate of our time and empathizing with what goes into what we are doing.

Ethos & Client Care

Safety, Comfort, Inclusivity, Awareness:
Our biggest priority is the safety, comfort, and inclusivity of our clients and the tattooers that occupy MADÉ. We understand that the practice of tattooing is an intimate one, which is why our shop and our practice was intentionally created and designed with your experience in mind. From the physical space to our energetic exchange, MADÉ is a space for love and art. We hope you feel at home here.

The Intimate Relationship Between Client and Artist:
A tattoo session of any kind is a sacred and intimate exchange. It is a pocket of time that we feel must be held intentionally and with care. It is important to us that you be just as involved in the process as we are, meaning your tattoo session does not revolve solely around your artist. It revolves around you and your artist. It is a collaboration. Know that we care deeply about your body, thoughts, and human experience as a whole. We hope you feel comfortable to share yourself with us during our time together.

Diversity and Inclusivity — Melanin, Body Types, Mental and Physical Abilities:
We welcome you exactly as you are.
We are always available to answer any questions or concerns that may arise during the booking and/or tattooing process. For example, if you are wondering what a tattoo or color tattoo might look like on your skin tone, or how a tattoo might heal over a scar, we can chat. Whatever you need to feel seen, comfortable, and heard, we are here to provide to the best of our abilities.

Zero Patience For Discrimination:
Any type of racism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism, othering, body shaming, anapirophobia, cacomorphobia, belittling, discrimination, or exclusivity is not tolerated in my practice, my shop, or my ethos. Micro or macro aggression of any kind is not tolerated. You will be asked to leave for good if any of these ways of thinking or being are something you bring in with you.
